TIPS FOR SAFE TRAVEL

- While you're away, ask a neighbor to take in your paper or mail.
- Take only the credit cards you plan to use with you.
- Dress comfortably and inconspicuously.
- Don't take more luggage than you can carry.
- If driving, make sure your car has been properly serviced and the tires are in good condition.
- Obtain specific directions to your destination, including expressway entrances and exits.
- If you get lost, drive to the nearest public place to check your map.
- Always keep your car doors and windows locked.
- If your car is bumped or flashed by oncoming headlights, do not stop. Drive to the nearest public area and dial 911 to report the incident to the police.
- At a stop light, make sure you leave enough space in front of your car so you can pull away if you have to.
- If you have a flat tire in a remote location, drive slowly to a populated, well lit area to fix it even if you ruin the tire.
- Day or night, do not park in a rest area to sleep.
- Never leave your luggage unattended.
- Make sure your bags are locked. For extra protection against pilferage, place a strap around each piece of luggage.
- At the airport, board a bus or taxi only at specified pick-up points.
- Do not answer a knock on the door of your hotel or motel room without identifying who is there. If the person says she/he is an employee, call the front desk for verification of authorized access to your room. Never open the door to a stranger.
- Keep valuables in the hotel safe.
- If you witness anything suspicious, call the front desk. Do not try to take care of it yourself.
- While at the pool or beach, do not leave your wallet or keys unattended.
- If you lose your room key, report the loss to the front desk immediately.
